This year's KELS events officially kicked off with the literary meet
organized on 16th March, Thursday. The topic for the meet was 'Battlefield'.
KELS Recommends were published just to give an idea of what kind of books could
be discussed under the aforementioned topic. Now I know exactly what you are
thinking. One word. Boring. What can be fun about discussing books on war?
However, if you had heard the twisted version some of the books that were
presented or the hilariously awesome perspectives that came to light as a
result of the discussion you would double over with laughter.
That is the beautiful thing about discussions. Our unique minds work in different ways and derive different conclusions from each event that we read or go through in our lives and when all of these ideas come together, it's a blast.
The turnover was wonderful. Quite a lot of people showed up. Not just
to discuss their own books but some came to watch. All kinds of books where
discussed ranging from oldies like gone with the wind (vintage gold-I tell you)
and little women (yes we have all read it) to some relatively new ones like the
boy in striped pajamas, when we were orphans, the book thief, the pianist, moth
smoke and many others. Some movie recommendations were also given. I have got
the boy in striped pajamas downloading on my torrent right now :D
The event was not all 'books' 'literary' 'books', it ended with a
historical game of dumb charades.
(Allow me to say historical here. There really is no other word.) We divided into two teams and one team gave to the other 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'. Savage, I tell you. However Aida from the other team killed it. If you were there to witness how we guessed ass-assination you would have laughed for the next half hour like we did. Somehow every single word on this absurdly long title was guessed. All in a few minutes. But Aida wasn't going down without vengeance and when it was time for the first team to guess they were at a complete loss. I don't blame them since it was so hard I don't even remember what the name of the movie was. All in all, time well spent. Hoping to see even more people in the next meet. Until then. Toodles :D

12th May 2015, the KDS ANNUAL DRAMA was finally aired. I had heard a lot about the tiresome rehearsals going on for almost two months, from the kds members. But then I also heard not to expect much, to keep my hopes within the leash because when hopes crash and money burns it hurts...a lot! Who knew, I'd be swept off my feet? Awe-struck by the sheer talent of KDS actors? But then who can blame me, for the widely accepted notion is that King Edward Medical University is the 'HOME OF NERDS'. But after the KDS annual drama I was forced to rephrase the term as ' THE HOME OF THE TALENTED'

They call themselves 'THE HOME OF THE FEARLESS'. A very intimidating title indeed. Awe inspiring too. So when they present to you an event and call it "16TH ALL PAK DECLAMMATION CHAMPIONSHIP' you're bound to mark the date on your calender and wait in anticipation for the day of battle of words and minds.

Quiet. Everything’s quiet after a huge storm.
Aye Caramba! Creativity and humour knew no bounds as students from every year raced to send in their photos, all at the eleventh hour! KELS’s inbox, feeling awfully neglected at the week’s start, was close to bursting at the end. Frantic calls to extend the dead line were answered by the powers that be with an almighty ‘OK!’ and a 2pic max was changed to 4. The theme was ‘KE through my Eyes’ that brought in pics ranging from hostel cats to Sir Akram’s bat, pigeon flights to DH-sights, building scenes to well umm Manno the garbage Queen.

But in tribute to the many photos that didn't win, a random mention of what we've learnt from them:
I guess that’s how one could aptly describe the state… or should I say ‘status’ of KE’s virtual world. If you’re a Kemcolian (or a Kemcolian’s friend… or a friend of a Kemcolian’s friend –whose fb account was recruited to perform the much-in-demand task of ‘liking a photo’) you’d know that a crazy storm in the garb of the KELS-held Photo Competition recently hit KE.

KEMUNITED got it’s own fair share of likes, as people began to call in friends, foes and possibly distant aunts for voting. The wackiness was amusing and all in good fun… though when names like Thali Ka Brinjal began liking pics things miiiiiight have toed the line!
Some of the comments during the whole episode were:
‘Koi deen iman hai aap logon ka k nahi?’
Judged by Literary Experts Remisha Zahid and Mussab Ahmad and tech-whiz Tauseef Omer, it was Bilal Mazhar’s fantastic fountain of knowledge that won First prize, with Nida Rauf’s charging pigeon coming Second and Amna Altaf’s Staircase to Success winning Third. Laiba Khalid’s photo that mocked the state of our dear class rooms won sure votes and likes, to bag the Fourth place as did Abdul Rehman’s never-before-seen dream office snap, that came Fifth.

That once in a blue moon, Physio can seem pretty too!

That despite whatever we say, our atrial chambers still have room for KE
And that Anam Naz is one hell of a photographer! :D
And so that rounds up the happenings of the KELS-held Photo Captioning Contest. Kudos for such a successful event to the mastermind Faiza Hameed who didn’t stress a bit ( ‘Uff No entries till the 29th!! I kept pulling on my inexistent hair and biting my nails to smithereens... People need to learn to be more punctual! I mean I could've had a heart attack these past few days!), event incharge M. Bilal (sees rising ‘likes’… pumps fist in air… yells ‘PartAy!!!’ :D ) and KELS President Remisha Zahid (umm no jokes about my President :P )
So yes the storm is over, and all is quiet…

The fun-filled, brain-teasing competition would comprise two rounds:
PRELIMINARY ROUNDS would take place on 3rd May 2011 between all participating teams. A total of 30 questions would be asked from ALL categories. In case of a tie, a tie-breaker round would be held for qualification to the grand finale.
GRAND FINALE would fall on 5th May 2011 between the five top teams of the preliminary rounds(one from each year).
VENUE: Patiala Lecture Theatre 1
TIMINGS: 1:30-2:30
Each team should comprise THREE members only. As many teams can take part in the competition as possible but only ONE team from each year will qualify for the grand finale. So hurry up and get your teams registered oneng.kels@gmail.com. There is no registration fee.
