A Heavy Heart and a Foggy Night
By Asna Safdar
Hiding in the shadows
lurking stealthily in the dark
trying to give a face tear stricken
the poor guise of hair in darker locks.
Like a child up to savory mischief
afraid of discovery at every passing stranger's hand,
not knowing
that
worse than being caught
would be the realization
of never being noticed.
Not a single glance
as if
it were a mere shadow
that budded from and
the very next moment,
dissolved into the same darkness
leaving behind
nothing but the mourning vapor of a breath
wandering in the benighted cold.
Hiding in the shadows
lurking stealthily in the dark
trying to give a face tear stricken
the poor guise of hair in darker locks.
Like a child up to savory mischief
afraid of discovery at every passing stranger's hand,
not knowing
that
worse than being caught
would be the realization
of never being noticed.
Not a single glance
as if
it were a mere shadow
that budded from and
the very next moment,
dissolved into the same darkness
leaving behind
nothing but the mourning vapor of a breath
wandering in the benighted cold.
