The Facebook Faux pas - 10 Misses that don't let Mark Zuckerberg sleep at night !
By Taroob Latef (2nd Yr)
This is an exclusively Taroob-felt interpretation of how many of us end up in Facebook faux pas ^^
10. COVER MISUNDERSTOOD
A cover is supposed to depict the inner you. It heads your timeline because it has a better purpose, so lets not send the feature to trash by using it as a bigger display picture.
9. ENTERTAINMENT MISDEEDS
Taking 24/7 quizzes, photos of even a bread slice that you toasted, games that you sadly just went gaga over is very entertaining I’m sure, but you just got kicked out of somebody’s newsfeed.
8. COMMENTS MISLED
Everybody looks forward to comments. If your comment only consists of ‘:D, lol, hmm, hehe, haha’ please add something of value or else you may as well have not bothered at all, you were just a waste of a notification.
7. EASY MISTER
Quoting your own quote in your own quotations is just not cool, not even if you came up with an Al-Pacino one liner. If you can’t get it out of your mind, request a friend to quote it and get it out of your system but don’t at any cost quote it yourself. To understand the severity: This is as bad as liking your own comment.
6. THE MISTAKE
To the Pokers and the Poked, I don’t really have a take on poking because the purpose of the button escapes me. Let’s just say some things are better untouched so leave that button alone.
5. MISNOMER
Statuses like ‘Baarish ♥, Hawa ♥, Aala Mausam ♥’ are highly unnecessary. I am sorry but I can look outside the window myself, so can everybody else. Use the box to update about the state of your heart, mind, body and soul. Period. The air, soil, water do not qualify for a status.
4. THE MISGUIDE
Here’s a page that I have huge respect for: ‘I took the time to write on your wall, don't just comment on my post’. Comments are supposed to go under posts ONLY when it’s too impolite for the other person’s wall, else it’s a box solely designed for your friends who want to butt in, not YOU.
3. PRIVACY AMISS
Facebook invented a to-die-for privacy format for a reason. Do not pester people with ‘I can’t see your friend list, have you hidden your wall posts, open your pictures to me’ because guess what, maybe they didn’t think it was any of your damned business.
2. TAGGING MISHAP
Get the meaning of tagging. Tag people where otherwise they will NOT be notified or like me to make a point somewhere. Forget the second, learn the first. DO NOT tag them on their own walls, statuses or posts, they are going to read it anyways.
1. MISUSING THE LIKE BUTTON
Finally that which irks me the most =p
Liking all your wall posts is sweet, all your birthday posts sweeter, the comments that go with them sweetest. But the button was neither meant to be an easy way to make people happy nor a substitute for a lack of comment. Discriminate a little, keep it special.

lol! This was really good, Taroob! Welcome to the blog.
ReplyDeleteI personally find a lot of the misses you mentioned to be pretty annoying myself but that's just me and you, no? Your profile(and in the same vein your life;) ) is yours to do what you want with it. So even though the use of personal photos for covers, or multiple <+3 statuses or "personal" 'life's a b****' quotes OR self-liked wallposts n statuses does seem hard to get down the gullet, its all somebody's way of being who they are. As long as they keep who they are to themselves, I'm good!;D
Keep writing!
Taroob.. getting a good review from The Faiza Hameed is a big thing ! Hats off on this amazing feat !! :)
ReplyDeleteQuite well interpreted i guess...
ReplyDeletefirst of all facebook doesnt come with a user manual , it's all about how a person interprets it , you cant tell people what to do on FB and what not to do , secondly not all of your friends live under the same rock , so baarish ka status to banta hai :P , and i'm pretty sure there are other things that keep the kinky billionaire awake at night ;p
ReplyDeletefacebook is all about everyone's very own like nd taste ...its false to expect the same taste from different people ...nd honestly if u r gonna recommend a code of ethics or a line of usage for fb users its gonna get very boring...
